pointing

yes, it’s joel’s newest trick.  i had him on the floor yesterday morning (trying to keep him quiet enough that he wouldn’t wake his sleeping giant of a sister (fee-fi-fo-fum)) and pointed out a ball to him.  suddenly, he watched his own finger, as if possessed, or pulled by an invisible string, lift up and point as well.  “joel, you pointed!” i said.  he looked thrilled but unsure.  he had, hadn’t he? could he do it again?  what did it mean, this mysterious new power?  not much, when you get right down to it.  and, you know what they say, it’s rude to point anyways and when you point your finger, there are three more pointing back at you.  but, we’re excited anyways.

not only that, but i’m pretty sure he took his first solo step yesterday to top it all off.  we’re in an odd phase.  he stands well and walks well with a prop but seems hesitant to try those first steps.  actually, i think it’s my fault.  it’s like he can sense that i’m watching him, waiting for something.  and it’s psyching him out (maybe this is why ruth didn’t walk until 14 months).  when am i going to learn my lesson to leave my kids alone?  i need a new hobby.
